The business began between 1984 and 1988 while still in high school and college. It started with basic lawn care services, built through determination and steady effort. During that time, a simple piece of advice helped shape the company’s future. “If you’re going to do work you’re proud of, use your name.”

That idea created a strong sense of accountability from the beginning. Every job carried personal responsibility. There was no hiding behind a brand. Instead, each project reflected the standard of the work delivered.

1984 - 1988 While searching for a name for the business, my father offered these words of advice: “Son, if you’re going to do work you’re proud of, use your name. Every job you do will have your name on it. You will not be hiding behind some ‘witty’ name; it will be your name everyone sees and knows."

By 1988, C R Shotwell Landscape Management was officially established. Soon after, services expanded beyond lawn care. Landscaping and hardscaping became a major focus, allowing the company to take on larger and more detailed projects.

From 1989 through the early 2000s, the company grew steadily. Service areas expanded across Warren, Hunterdon, Sussex, and Morris counties. Relationships with homeowners and businesses developed through consistent, reliable work.

Between 2006 and 2020, further improvements were made. The company invested in better equipment, high-quality materials, and more efficient methods. These upgrades allowed for stronger, longer-lasting results. Growth continued through word-of-mouth, built on trust and proven outcomes.

Today, more than three decades later, the company continues to serve Northwest New Jersey and surrounding areas with the same approach—focus on quality and do the job properly.
